Match Report

U18 Westport / Castlebar Girls amalgamation team hosted Sligo at Westport RFC for their final pool game of the Connacht Cup.

Both teams started very strongly, with the 1st half being a very enjoyable and competitive game of rugby from both sides. The visiting side were the first to get on the scoreboard, and they led 0-12 at half time.

The second half was filled with ups and downs and plenty of excitement on both sides. All of the girls kept the tempo up, and spectators on their toes throughout!

Despite 2 excellent scores by Holly Horkan and Aine O Connor, and a successful conversion from Leah Walsh, victory was not to be for the girls in blue, as Sligo matched the Westport girls point for point and the final score was 12-24.

This unfortunately meant the end of the season for the Westport girls.

Thank you to the parents for all of the trips between Westport and Castlebar RFCs for training and matches.

Thank you to Claire Coughlan for all of your hard work in all of the organising, motivating and coaching the girls over the past few years. Thanks to Kate Feehan for your support in coaching this year, your experience was invaluable.

Most importantly, we. would like to thank all of the girls who put in a massive effort this year, making it to training and matches in between part-time jobs and school studies. Thank you so much to Mairead Bradley and the girls from Castlebar RFC who joined us, to make fielding a team this season possible. We wish all of the best to the girls progressing to the senior age group in wherever you go from here, and we hope that you keep playing, wherever that may be. ๐Ÿ’™
