When Westport travelled to Corinthians back in Nov for their Div 1 league game, Corinthians were victors 35 - 19. Both teams have developed a lot since then and today's meeting in Corrib RFC for the U14 Bowl Final was evidence of that development. 

Anyone who read a final score line of 0 - 3 would have assumed this was a match of little entertainment and value. Nothing could be further from the truth. This was an epic arm wrestle from start to end - tremendous defence from both sides, a doggedness that showed how much both teams wanted the victory and moments of play that demonstrated the talent that both these squads have.

The first half was primarily dominated by Corinthians - who played the majority of the game in the Westport half of the pitch. The Westport players repelled a constant barrage of attacks from a well structured Corinthians team. Our lads showed great heart, patience and skill to survive that period of the game and not concede a try.  The game arrived at half time 0 - 0 and on a knife edge.

Westport then stepped up their impact on the game and played much more rugby in their oppositions half. Both teams had try attempts held up over the line and the intensity of the tackling continued to demonstrate the teams never say die attitude.

In the last minute of the game, with the score still 0 -0, a penalty was awarded to Corinthians. This was the last kick of the game, and Corinthians number 10 slotted the penalty kick between the posts and the final whistle blew.

A devastating loss for our U14 players who made their supporters, parents and club so proud. A loss like this will stand to these brave players, and will be the foundation for bigger victories in the future.
